The works of Metzler & Ortloff are extremely rare for sale and are highly valued by collectors for the amazing clarity and realism of the work, the smallest study of details, and the most beautiful underglaze painting.

The business was founded by the entrepreneur Adolf Hehn from Ilmenau, who in 1863 found partners in order to expand production, the brothers Rudolf and Robert Metzler from the city of Sonneberg. Chen & Metzler was incorporated on April 18, 1873. In 1875 the brothers found another partner - Hugo Ortloff, an educated talented manager with funds. Metzler & Ortoff, due to contacts, Ortloff prospered rapidly. Many famous sculptors and designers have worked for 'Metzler & Ortloff' including the names Horst Aschermann, Josef Bayer, August Bornkessel, Walter Bosse (who also worked for Porzellanfabrik Arno Fischer), Helmut Fritz & Diller, C. Graser, Clara Herzeg-Hoffmann Jeuthe , Karl Kemedinger, Hans Nesl, Erich Legler, Franz Lippert, C. Mutzenbacher, Karl Nacke, Karl Röhrig, Max Sauerbrey, Richard Scheibe, Erich Schmidt-Kestner, Winkler, Wessel, Paul Wynand and animal figurine specialist Paul Zeiler. Numerous pieces were designed by Siegismund Wernekinck who also worked for the Galluba & Hoffmann company and by Gustav Oppel who worked for the famous 'Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur' in Volkstedt. Metzler & Ortoff's pieces have amazed and shaped the taste of many influential people in the world!
