Porcelain figurine of children, circus bear, 19th century gräfenthal germany
- Condition: Used
Very rare! Unique antique sculpture composition of several figures, depicting children who are entertained by a circus bear, made in the Art Deco style by the famous German porcelain manufactory Gräfenthal in the period of the second half of the 19th century.
An unusually realistic sculpture composition made of an original combination of biqué porcelain, from which the figures of children, a bear, an angel are made, and magnificent glazed porcelain on the stand and other details of the composition, such as flowers, clothing trim, and decoration of the hedge behind the figures. All figures and the composition as a whole are decorated with overglaze hand painting with polychrome enamels.
The mark is carved at the bottom on the back of the sculpture number 3995.
Since 1846, when the first porcelain factory was founded in the small town of Gräfenthal, one of the principles of the factory was to preserve the craftsmanship of artistic porcelain. Despite the modernization of the porcelain industry since then, the factory maintains manual porcelain production.
A very beautiful genre sculptural composition. Quite large and heavy.
